HMSI, Japanese auto giants Honda’s fully owned subsidiary, announced they’d be launching 100cc entry level bikes in the beginning of next year.

HondaNaresh Kumar Rattan, Head of HMSI Sales, Marketing and Planning, told they had plans on entering the 100cc sector, and this would be happening only in the beginning 6 months of 2012.

Rattan says the move implies the company’s motives to make its presence felt in the bike segment.

Rattan emphasized HMSI is looking into entering the 100cc segment to stamp their authority in the Indian bike market. He tells they already have a wait period for 2 of their bikes in India.

A new scooter would also be launched by the company later this year.

The company have not yet revealed the pricing of the 2 models to be released, but talked about an investment of Rs. 400 crores to expand their existing production.

Rattan told the investments are based on expanding their capacity of production due to the wait period their bikes have. They expected to be starting production at their plant in Rajasthan in the early months of 2012 and in Karnataka which is their 3rd plant by 2012.

HMSI’s 1st plant is near Gurgaon, Manesar, in Haryana.
